On this Richmond, Virginia instrumental band's third full-length release, bold swathes of guitar predominate, underpinned by ambient textures and boosted by occasional bursts of space-metal. In a dynamic set that blends prog rock and electronica, highlights include "The Sheltering Sky," a suitably majestic evocation of cosmic awesomeness, "Mars Ascendent," which journeys through purposeful, slowcore metal to an expansively cinematic climax, and the sweeping chords of "Invocation in the Caldera," which evoke monolithic desert mountain ranges.
